Bring your class to No.1 Royal Crescent and experience life as a guest or servant at one the finest addresses in Georgian Bath. We offer a selection of workshops for KS1 and KS2 (and Foundation Years). All of our KS1 and KS2 workshops last 2.5 hours and take place in the Education Room which is equipped for exciting interactive sessions. A learning trail is also incorporated to help students make the most of a tour of all the 10 rooms in the house.

All workshops last 2.5 hours, cost £5.25 per student (adults free), and include a self led tour of the house.
Meet the Housekeeper (can be tailored for KS1 or KS2) – The Housekeeper will greet you at the door and introduce you to the life of a servant at No.1 with costumes, role-play and the chance to wash laundry and use a carpet beater.
Preparing for a Party (can be tailored for KS1 or KS2) – Lady Catherine will welcome you to No.1 and teach you the rules of refined behaviour. Dress up as an elegant Georgian lady or gentleman then design a dance card or write an invitation with quill, ink & sealing wax.
Cooking a Feast (can be tailored for KS1 or KS2) – The Housekeeper will ask you to help plan a grand feast at No.1. Learn about 18th century food then measure and mix the ingredients for Bath buns. Examine an original porcelain plate and jelly glass.
Georgian Architecture and Design (can be tailored for KS1 or KS2) – No.1 is a grand house designed in the Classical style. Explore its architectural features and discover the secrets of Georgian design. Create your own Georgian inspired pattern and make a colourful repeating print.
Lady Catherine’s Fan (can be tailored for KS1 or Foundation Years) – Hear a story from Lady Catherine about her missing fan, and see if you can find it and other missing objects around the house. Then have fun decorating your own fan.
Toys (can be tailored for KS1 or Foundation Years) – Children in the 18th century enjoyed a variety of games and toys. Dress up in Georgian costumes and try out replica games, then explore the house to find out other ways in which children’s lives were different then.
Who was Mr Sandford (KS2 only) – Henry Sandford was the tenant of No.1 from 1776–96. In costume as History Detectives, find out and record as much as you can about him and his life in Georgian Bath using historical sources and objects in the house.
Gossip and Print (KS2 only) – In the Georgian period, there were many ways to share information such as journals and pamphlets. In role as editors find the fascinating examples located around the house and list them in your own historical journal using quill, ink & sealing wax.
