All of our workshops have been re-assessed and adapted in line with Covid-19 guidelines and come with Risk Assessments outlining our Covid-secure procedures. Please note that teachers and adult helpers are responsible for students’ behaviour and safety at all times. We will discuss all workshops in detail on booking and offer familiarisation visits for onsite sessions.

Bring your class to No.1 Royal Crescent and experience life as a guest or servant at one the finest addresses in Georgian Bath. We are offering a reduced selection of workshops for KS1 and KS2 (and Foundation Years). All of our KS1 and KS2 workshops last 2 hours and include an immersive tour of the house, some object handling and a creative activity. A learning trail is also incorporated to help students make the most of a tour of all the 10 rooms in the house.

Meet the Georgians workshop

Meet the Georgians

KS2

Mrs Notts, the Housekeeper, will greet you and introduce you to the life of a Georgian family and their servants living at No.1 Royal Crescent. Students will be offered the chance to try on costumes and have the opportunity to handle historical artefacts and write a diary entry with quill, ink and sealing wax.

This workshop can also be run as an outreach session in school. See below for more details.

Meet the Housekeeper

KS1

Mrs Notts the Housekeeper, will greet you and introduce you to the life of a servant at No.1 Royal Crescent with costumes, role-play and the chance to wash laundry and use a carpet beater. Examine original objects including a teapot and butter pats.

Preparing for a Party

KS1

Lady Amelia will welcome you to No.1 and teach you the rules of refined behaviour. Dress up as an elegant Georgian lady or gentleman, learn fan language, handle historical artefacts then learn a traditional Georgian dance for a ball.

The Building of Bath

KS1 & KS2

No.1 Royal Crescent is a grand house designed in the Classical style. Explore its architectural features and discover the secrets of Georgian design. Learn how the City of Bath grew and why it is a World Heritage Site. Use modelling materials to create your own Georgian architectural feature

Great British School Trip

We are proud to be a Great British School Trip partner. Now schools can apply for a bursary to fund visits and/or  travel to No.1 Royal Crescent. Apply through the Great British School Trip website.

Loan Boxes

We can also offer specially made loan boxes available for hire in schools, each themed around our museum sites to inspire your pupils to engage with different elements of the Curriculum in your classroom. These exciting boxes use a combination of genuine and replica objects to handle, costumes to try on and extensive teacher’s notes with information, a PowerPoint, lesson plans and activity suggestions to help you make the most of the box.

These are perfect to borrow to support classroom learning before or after a visit to the Museum, or simply as a standalone experience.

Each box is available to hire at £25 for a minimum 2 week hire, each additional week (up to 6 weeks total) costs £15.

The following boxes are currently available to borrow:

  • Back in time for dinner (KS1/2) Learn all about 18th Century food, the tools they used, the foods they ate, the smells of the kitchen and the clothes the cook would have worn.
  • Below Stairs (KS1/2) Meet the servants at No.1. Learn about the daily working lives of each servant, try on costumes and hot seat the characters, handle genuine and replica artefacts and experience the smells of the service areas of a Georgian household
  • Life Above Stairs (KS1/2) Explore the extravagent lives of the family living ‘upstairs’ at No.1, what would they have worn for an evening of entertainment? What accessories would they have carried? Try on costumes, handle artefacts and learn the art of Georgian etiquette.

Outreach Workshops

If you are unable to bring your class to the museum we can also arrange to come to you. Our outreach sessions designed to be interactive and informative and can be tailored to suit individual learning objectives. We will bring all materials needed for an activity as well as artefacts from our handling collection and some costumes to try on. Sessions are either 1 or 1.5 hours depending on the age of pupils.
