The Scullery
The Scullery was a multi-functional area – space in a town house was limited. It provided facilities for household cleaning and for washing, which was always kept separate from the Kitchen. Clean linen symbolised moral integrity and laundry was an endless task in a Georgian household.
– The COAL HOLE allowed coal to be delivered directly from the street.
– The water used in No.1 Royal Crescent came from its own WELL. Extracted using a pump, this was a valuable asset.
– Meat and other perishable foodstuffs were kept cool in a MEAT SAFE.
