Creative Visible Mending Workshop

30 August @ 7:00 pm9:00 pm£45

£45

Believe it or not, the end of August is the perfect time to dig out our woollens while there is time to enjoy sprucing them up for the winter months to come.

Open to all abilities, this relaxed workshop will cover a range of visible mending techniques for knitted materials:

  • darning
  • reverse darning
  • applique
  • Swiss darning

If we have enough time, we will also look at how decorative stitches can be turned to practical use with chain, blanket (honeycomb) and seed stitches.

With expert guidance and enthusiastic support, add new charm to your existing belongings and give them a whole new lease of life.

Duration of workshop: 2 hours

What’s included?

  • Mending materials – sewing notions and threads (feel free to bring your own sewing kit if you prefer)
  • Tea and coffee will be available
  • A test swatch to practise on (or bring your damaged woollens to dive straight in!)

Concession price available (Seniors 65+, Student, NHS, Blue Light)

Suitable for 16 years old and above.

Note: The workshop space is accessible via lift. If you have any access needs please let us know so we can support you in any way possible.

About the artist:

Founder of Bath’s new Love Makers Craft Cafe,  Anna has been making and mending for as long as she can remember.  She drew copiously, learning about saws and soldering irons at her father’s knee; then was a fine art and ceramics scholar before life aboard her first houseboat cemented her passion for creating, repairing and making do.

“Visible mending builds on the idea of functional repair to extend the life of a broken object while enabling us to explore our creativity and ingenuity.  Now more than ever, it’s important to love what we have anew – and by learning this satisfying process of repairing our belongings, we can.”
